Learn About Tile

Crafted to outlast many of its competitors, it’s no surprise that tile is a longtime flooring favorite. Adorning indoor and outdoor gathering spots for centuries, tile goes well beyond fleeting trends. Tile has remarkable staying power and is always beautiful, making it a natural choice not only for your floors, but for your backsplash, shower, and walls as well.

At Santa Cruz Carpet One Floor & Home, we carry an extensive collection of both indoor and outdoor tile. Are you thinking of adding tile to your home or to your place of business?

Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Where Can Tile Be Installed?

Tile offers up many solid benefits, whether used indoors or outdoors, for residential or commercial settings. Its bold colors and textures distinguish your space, whether your signature style is trendy or timeless. New innovations on the tile industry offer constant new design possibilities, and tile can now be customized to fully fit your vision. It is also durable and easy to clean, while enduring heavy wear and tear.

Tile is especially popular in kitchens and bathrooms because it combines with moisture resistance. So, if you want to add the natural looks of wood or stone to your kitchen or bathroom, be sure to consider tile.

Types of Tile

With so many types of tile to choose from, it can be challenging to narrow it down to one pick. Depending on your needs and tastes, certain tile types work best for certain locations and functions. While there are many varieties of tile on today’s market, here are the three most prevalent tile types:

Ceramic tile:  Crafted out of natural clay, porcelain tile is finished with a kiln-firing. The end result is exceptionally sturdy, so this tile is great choice for both indoor and outdoor uses.

Porcelain tile: A variation of ceramic tile, porcelain is finished at a higher temperature in the kiln, with a denser end result.  Since it resists water and offers slip resistance, porcelain tile is a smart choice for the poolside and in the bathroom.

Stone tile: Made from naturally-sourced stones, stone tile is a no-brainer when it comes to adorning outdoor landscapes. But don’t rule out these gorgeous granite, slate, or marble slabs for your hearth, or the entryway of your home, either.
